Famous Bobby Jones Golf Instructional Films Debut
For The First Time On DVD
Bobby Jones: “How I Play Golf” and “How To Break 90”

Original Warner Bros. Series on Three DVD’s in Two Exclusive Editions

Atlanta, Ga. – September 7, 2004 Bobby Jones enters the digital age for the first time ever with the release of the most famous golf instructional films ever made, “How I Play Golf” and “How To Break 90”. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy more than 3 full hours of 18 timeless instructions from the game’s most cherished name. The Warner Bros. owned films have been totally re-mastered and re-formatted on three DVD’s that will be available for purchase in two exclusive editions.

The DVD’s will be marketed under the name Bobby Jones Productions. Steve Chamberlain, the former founder and head of the home entertainment group at Turner Broadcasting is the general partner. Mr. Chamberlain has overseen the release of hundreds of major motion pictures in home video. He was also the driving force behind the most successful music compilation series in history, The Beatles Anthology (for Capitol EMI). Exclusive licenses have been granted by Turner Entertainment Company (a division of Time Warner) and the Family of Robert T. Jones, Jr.

The films are considered a mainstay of the game. Most recently, they have been featured on The Golf Channel. Bobby teaches both the fundamentals and the nuances of the game to some of Hollywood’s most recognized names including W.C. Fields, James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Loretta Young and many more. Each episode starts with a humorous skit featuring the actors and then Dr. Jones steps in to solve the problem.

The first part of the 12-episode series “How I Play Golf” was filmed and produced by Warner Bros. in 1931, just after Bobby Jones won the heralded “Grand Slam”. The initial series was a hit and Warner invited Bobby back to Hollywood in 1933 to create an additional 6-episode series called “How To Break 90”. All of these episodes are included in this new DVD release.

“DVD has transformed the home entertainment industry,” said Steve Chamberlain. “The new technology allows viewers to experience much improved sound and picture quality, not to mention instant access to whatever chapter they choose. The Bobby Jones instructionals are perfectly suited for the new digital era,” added Chamberlain.

“We are thrilled to be involved in this project,” said Bob Jones IV, grandson of Bobby Jones. “Every time we see these films as a family, we recognize the extraordinary talent of our grandfather, his perfect swing, and his natural on-camera personality. No wonder the world of golf loves him so much. He is an inspiration to us all,” said Jones IV.

“The Bobby Jones series is an important part of our library of films,” said Roger Mayer, President of Turner Entertainment Company (a Time Warner subsidiary). “Steve Chamberlain’s long term relationship with our films and our company gives us a great deal of confidence in the ultimate success of this wonderful gem on DVD,” said Mayer.
